My Story

Hello! My name is Linnea Gerspach. I am so excited to share my journey with you! Each week I will share all kinds of things about my workouts, my life, videos, struggles, successes and encouragement (fitness & biblical) with you!

But first, I’d like to share about who I am and why I do what I do!

Mike and I were brought together, on the most tragic day in U.S. history, September 11, 2001!  He called a mutual friend looking for a prayer service to pray for our nation.  My church had one, and after prayer, we went to coffee… for two hours!  We have been together ever since!  We were married on April 27, 2002

Delight yourself also in the Lord,
And He shall give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4

We have three incredible children; Alyssa (12), David (5) and Maggie (2)

family

Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord,
The fruit of the womb is a reward.
Like arrows in the hand of a warrior,
So are the children of one’s youth.
Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them. Psalm 127:3-5a

My journey to health began in June of 2009.  I found myself desperate to change my health. In fact my husband and I found it ironic that I’d watch “The Biggest Loser” while eating a Hershey bar.   At the time I weighed 265 pounds and wore a size 22 jean.  My best-friend Katie’s husband, Scott, owned a gym, that he’d run in the park, Fit-by-Focus.  I asked them if I could help them with their graphic design needs in exchange for training.  They agreed! And I spent the next year driving an hour, both ways, three to four times a week, to workout with them in the park.  This changed my life!

The walls of self-hate, insecurities and shame came tumbling down!  I remember like it was yesterday; doing a partner workout with Terry, I started crying, hard. She said “It’s okay Linnea, you got this, we’re almost done!”, but it wasn’t that the workout was particularly hard, for the first time in my life, I began to believe in my self!

June of 2009 began the seven year journey to where I am today!

Since June of 2009, and I have had the privilege of being a part of three different CrossFit gyms! StoneWay CrossFit 2009-2010 (previously Fit-by-Focus), Maple Valley CrossFit 2010-2011 and CrossFit Devotion 2013-2016!

I can tell you for a fact, this journey has not been easy, in fact, it’s probably been one of the hardest, and more often than not, the most frustrating, yet most rewarding, things I have ever done! But I wouldn’t change it for anything!  I have had injuries, sickness, babies, sick kids & husband, both my husband and I have had surgeries, death of friends, death of family… it’s life.   I have had huge successes, and I have huge set-backs! I have come with-in 15 pounds of my goal weight, to gaining most of the weight I lost back (how annoying is that?!).  However; from the very beginning of this journey, it has been my number one goal to inspire and encourage others by sharing my story!  That if by being totally open and honest, one, just one person, is encouraged and begins their own journey to health, then all of my struggles have been completely worth it!

Currently I am not working out at a CrossFit gym (where we live now, there isn’t one within a reasonable driving distance), so I am working out at a teeny tiny small town gym! I am learning how to program my own workouts, and I am learning how to not do CrossFit. This has been hard for me, CrossFit is my jam! But I am embracing this new stage of life and I am having fun!

I have been using Hammer Nutrition products since 2009, and I believe them to be the best out there! In the past I have tried other products for a while, and I always came back to Hammer!

At the end of 2015, after reading on Hammer’s Facebook page that they were still accepting applications for sponsorship, I thought “why not?” I am an athlete after all! So I applied and I was accepted for the 2016 season! Mind blown! Well shortly after the year started I blew out my left shoulder, then blew out my right hip/lower back… DOH! I was totally bummed! I had wanted to do several events in 2016 and with the injuries I sustained, I could not.  Yet, Hammer continued to believe in me and my journey, and they accepted me again for the 2017 season!

This year I am honing in and focusing in on dropping fat pounds, and I know Hammer will be there with me every step of the way!

Saving the best for last!

colossians-3-23

I am a believer and follower of Christ! Everything I do, I strive to make Jesus the center, to be my focus! This applies to my fitness journey just as much as my everyday life! Without Jesus, I am nothing.

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23

I would not be who I am, and do what I do, without Jesus! My heart and my intentions are often selfish, self motivated, I can be mean, and say things I wish I didn’t say! But because of Jesus, I am a new creation, everyday! That’s the glory and grace in Christ!

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sinsand to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9

I will not hold back on my faith in this blog, so keep that in mind when reading!  I am open to all to read what I have to share, but I am a Christian. There is a variety of backgrounds following me, so please do your homework and make sure what I have to say is not offensive to your family morals or beliefs.
