Now if you’re like me, you read the title and heard the 90’s song by Haddaway “What is Love” and starting humming it in your head. Maybe you had horrible flash backs to the 1998 movie “Night at the Roxbury” with Will Ferrell and Chris Kattan, and their head bobbing …. but I seriously digress. You will find I love to quote and reference movies, it’s a disease really, I should get it checked!
With Valentines Day just around the corner, I felt it fitting to do my very first blog series titled “What is Love?”!
Love. What a simple word, love, L-O-V-E, love. But, is it really simple? Is the very act of love easy to do?
Valentines Day can bring a flood of emotions over the strongest of persons, bringing them to their knees, even years after marriage! Some are madly in love and others are just mad at love. For some it is a day to celebrate the love of a spouse or boyfriend or girlfriend. For many families it is a day to celebrate the love they have for each other and their children. And for some it is a reminder that they are still alone or the “love” they were shown in their life, was in fact abuse, not love, and they dread the day.
Love depicted in movies today, isn’t always love, it’s lust. And in world where there are impossible standards set up for men and women (because of photoshop, airbrush and pornography), we are made to believe that love, is sex, and sex is love!
Today reading a post on a private Facebook page, one woman wrote (paraphrased):
“I used to be 100 pounds overweight, and people wouldn’t love me for who I was, I was sad and miserable, and alone. I was told I needed to lose weight. I worked really hard to lose the weight, for me, and to find love. I am the healthiest I have ever been. I have muscle, I am strong, I am fierce and I look good, but was recently told, I am too skinny and I look like a man!”
WHAT IN THE WORLD? She is either too big, or too small, or looks like a man?? Who says these things?? THAT isn’t love! And you bet your sweet mocha we will be talking about what love ISN’T!
LOVE can mean so much, to so many! And LOVE is SO much more than society tells us!
Whatever your experience is with love, positive or negative, there is hope for all! Over the next few weeks we will be going over 1 Corinthians 13:4-7:
HOW REFRESHING! Read the verse above again slowly! No really, I’ll wait!
No matter your spiritual beliefs, the above verse really is what life is all about, love. And the Bible gives us the blueprints, right there in black and white, of how to love! Not just our spouse, boyfriend or girlfriend, but ALL people, under all circumstances! Our neighbors, strangers, our co-workers, family, friends, everyone, even ourselves!
We will also hunker down, peel away the distractions, and look at the very definition of “LOVE”, no filters, no masks, nothing fake! As well as look at what LOVE isn’t!
To prepare for the series, I asked my Facebook friends this question,
“What is the first thing you think of when you hear the word ‘LOVE'”
and these were their amazing answers:
“Sacrifice & Decision”-Kara
“The love of a baby to their momma” -Georgie
“My ladyboss and family”-Scott
“Respect, trust, honor” -Trisha
“The DC Talk song, ‘Love is a verb'”-Charlene
“Children Outdoors Fresh air “-Christy
“John 3:16” – Kara
“Love is an action word. It means sometimes doing the hard things even when you don’t want to“ – Torri
I hope you are intrigued, I know I am!
It is my plan, with God’s guidance, to give you some meaty, biblical thoughts, weaved into fitness tips, advice, recipes, some of my personal frustrations/successes I have had along this journey, and even share some of your stories (with permission of course!)! You can keep your eye out as well for posts on my favorite supplements, workout gear and more!
Through the next few weeks, I will be laying the foundation for this blog in “LOVE”, see what I did there? YEP, I am tricky!
So sit back, relax and enjoy the ride!
In the mean time, CLICK HERE to listen to a beautiful song written by our good friend, Joe Monto!
“I have never seen a more beautiful example of love than this. The world needs to know that this love still exists.” -Joe
